2nd Graduate Interdisciplinary session "Material Appearance: light scattering and perception"

Material appearance: light scattering and perception

The appearance of materials is of course a question of light, the physical signal that carries information from the material to the eye, and a question of interpretation by the brain, turning this light signal into a sensation.

A scientific approach of material appearence therefore relies on optical measurement and models, and on perceptual measurement and models. This is addresses these different topics, as different links of a same chain whose mutuals connections are still -- probably for a long time -- subject of investigation.
